Double table tops for double the charm

Lighter, cheaper and more environmentally friendly

WHAT DOES DOUBLED UP MEAN?

A double-up wooden top is a manufacturing technique in which the core of the top is thinner than a thick, heavy solid wood top. To achieve this, the edges of the table top are glued in such a way that the material thickness is doubled, creating an almost identical high-quality appearance from the outside as a thick solid wood top, but this is only an optical illusion.

Two are better than one

The Big Table Studio manufactures the Double-Up table tops with a so-called mirrored gluing process. To do this, the top is first made larger and then cut to the desired length. The sections are then glued to the underside in opposite directions. As a result, the annual rings are mirrored on the front edge.

‌For greater stability, the doubled wooden slats are usually reinforced with metal brackets to prevent warping in width. In addition, an integrated tension fitting is mounted on the underside of the table top. This ensures that the table top does not bend.

ADVANTAGES OF A DOUBLED TABLE TOP

LIGHTER

Double table tops are lighter than completely solid table tops, which makes them easier to transport and handle

LESS WOOD

Less wood is needed for the panels, so we can protect the environment & promote sustainable design.

PRICE WINNER

Double panels are a more cost-effective option without compromising on quality and style.

Even with the doubling process, the table tops are not made of glued laminated wood, a stick pattern or even pressed boards.
The Big Table Studio processes the entire plank of the original tree trunk. Basically, it can be said that in both cases it is solid real wood.  massives Echtholz handelt.
