CHERRY

The cherry tree (deciduous tree) is widespread in Europe, Asia Minor, the USA and Central America and reaches a height of 20-25 metres. Cherry includes both the wild cherry (bird cherry) and the various sweet cherry varieties. The heartwood darkens strongly to a warm, reddish-brown or light golden-brown colour. It has a fine-pored, flamed pattern.

‌The American cherry has a more even grain and is often knot-free.

‌Apart from the European cherry trees, only the "American cherry tree or black cherry" found in America has proven itself for furniture construction.

‌Cherry wood is very durable indoors.

‌Cherry wood is an important precious wood in furniture making, both now and in the past. It was particularly popular in Biedermeier and Art Nouveau furniture making due to its warm red tones.
