SIPO

Sipo trees thrive in the humid high forests of West and East Africa, including Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Liberia, Gabon, Uganda and Angola. The commercial timber comes mainly from the Ivory Coast and Ghana.

‌The deciduous tree is one of the largest trees in Africa, reaching a height of 45-60 metres and a diameter of 2.5 metres.

‌The heartwood has a uniform reddish-brown mahogany colour and is used as a substitute for mahogany and is therefore often incorrectly referred to as sipo mahogany.
